1. Individual arrival, dinner on your own, and overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Siena. Upon your arrival, we will provide you with all the necessary information to complete your cycling journey. (A 4-star hotel is available upon request at an additional cost).
2. FROM SIENA TO SAN QUIRICO D'ORCIA (57 km - Elevation gain: 750m). First stage surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. You will say goodbye to Siena and, just outside the historic center, cycle through the gentle hills of the Val d'Arbia. The Via Francigena route intertwines with that of L’Eroica until you reach Buonconvento, a charming medieval village. You can reach Buonconvento by cycling along the L’Eroica route. | Finally, you will cross the Brunello region before reaching your final destination in the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Dinner on your own and overnight stay at a 3-star hotel with a pool in San Quirico d'Orcia. (A 4-star hotel is available upon request at an additional cost).
3. FROM SAN QUIRICO TO PROCENO (62 km - Elevation gain: 890 m). You will cycle surrounded by the landscapes of the Val d’Orcia. At the start of the route, you will visit the thermal village of Bagno Vignoni, with its extraordinary thermal pool located in the center of the square. From Bagno Vignoni, an asphalted road through the valley floor and a long ascent will lead you to Radicofani, offering unique views over the entire Val d'Orcia. After leaving Radicofani, you will descend towards the Val di Paglia, where the landscape is characterized by endless hills and the Monte Amiata. After a short stretch on the Cassia road, you will tackle a long dirt road that leads to the beautiful village of Proceno. Dinner and overnight stay at the Castello di Proceno.
4. FROM PROCENO TO VITERBO (60 km - Elevation gain: 930m). After passing through the center of Acquapendente, the stage continues without difficulty towards San Lorenzo Nuovo, where you’ll be greeted by a first beautiful view of Lake Bolsena. | As you approach the lake, you will follow a pleasant route on dirt roads with continuous ups and downs through olive groves, meadows, and woods, with beautiful views of Lake Bolsena in the background. | The route then moves away from Bolsena along the Via Cassia, offering the last views of the lake before heading towards Montefiascone. The following section is one of the most spectacular, along the ancient cobblestones of the Via Cassia, still in excellent condition. | Finally, you will pass through the Bagnaccio hot springs, a series of natural hot pools traditionally visited by pilgrims traveling along the Via Francigena, before reaching the center of Viterbo. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at Palazzo Riario. (A 4-star hotel is available upon request at an additional cost).
5. FROM VITERBO TO CAMPAGNANO (65 km - Elevation gain: 980m). The route, characterized by ups and downs through fields and forests, is mostly on paved roads until you reach the town of Vetralla. The next section of the route will take you towards the charming villages of Capranica and Sutri, with its amphitheater carved into the tuff stone and the beautiful historic center. Monterosi and the Monte Gelato waterfalls, a park area where you can rest and swim before the final stretch of the route that will bring you to Campagnano. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Campagnano.
6. FROM CAMPAGNANO TO ROME (46 km - Elevation gain: 420m). The final stage that will bring you to complete your pilgrimage on the Via Francigena. | Given the limited distance and difficulty of the route, we suggest departing as early as possible to reach Rome by lunchtime, allowing you to enjoy this wonderful city at a more leisurely pace. The route will be quite busy in some sections, and we can suggest alternative routes to reach the bike path along the Tiber River. Finally, you will reach St. Peter's Square, where you can take a final photo and begin to explore this magnificent city. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at a 4-star hotel located just a few steps from downtown Rome. Alternatively, you may choose to visit the city, meet our staff, and return to Siena by van.
