BY PLANE
The nearest international airports are:
Bari Palese Airport to reach the Ionian coast area and the Province of Matera
Naples Capodichino Airport to reach the Tyrrhenian coast and the province of Potenza.
Lamezia Terme Airport to reach the Pollino National Park area.
HOW TO GET TO MATERA:
From Bari airport
From Naples airport
Naples Capodichino Airport is about 300 km from Matera.
Once landed, you can take a bus line (see section “By Bus” for more information).

HOW TO GET TO MATERA:
From Bari airport
- by direct shuttle bus service served by Miccolis (see the “Direct Booking ” section);
- by direct shuttle bus service (see the “Bus Tour of Aeroporti di Puglia” section);
- by direct shuttle bus service by Cotrab (see the timetable);
- by direct shuttle bus service by Grassani E Garofalo (see the timetable);
- by train with the Nord Barese Railway Line (ferrovienordbarese.it), reaching the station of Bari Centrale. Leaving the station, you get Piazza Aldo Moro: at that point, turn left to reach FAL (Ferrovie Appulo Lucane), where several trains arrive at Matera Centrale Station in about 80 minutes.
WARNING: on public holidays there are no trains but only some buses;
From Naples airport
Naples Capodichino Airport is about 300 km from Matera.
Once landed, you can take a bus line (see section “By Bus” for more information).
BY TRAIN
Trenitalia and FAL connect Potenza and Matera to Bari, Foggia, Naples and Salerno, every day, reaching the final destination with an integrated train-bus system.
HOW TO GET TO MATERA BY TRAIN:
From Bari:
If you arrive in Bari with the state railways (Trenitalia), exit from Bari Centrale Station, and you arrive at Piazza Aldo Moro. At that point, turn left to reach FAL, where several trains arrive in Matera Centrale Station in about 80 minutes.
WARNING: On public holidays there are no trains but only a few buses.
From Ferrandina
If you arrive in Ferrandina (30 km from Matera) with the state railways you can take a FAL bus (connections, however, are not yet optimal).
From Metaponto
Those arriving by train to the Metaponto railway station (about 50 km from Matera) can take the Sita buses (remember: select Basilicata), informing them beforehand about the timetable because the races that connect Metaponto to Matera are not many.
From Salerno
For those who decide to arrive in Matera with Italo Train’s rail services, the Italobus shuttle service is available, which connects the railway station of Salerno to Matera’s main station with 4 daily races. It is not possible, however, to buy a ticket just for the bus, but you need to buy a train ticket and request the shuttle service.
Trenitalia and FAL connect Potenza and Matera to Bari, Foggia, Naples and Salerno, every day, reaching the final destination with an integrated train-bus system.

BY CAR
By car, Basilicata can be reached from the north following the Adriatic coast, along the A14 Bologna - Taranto motorway and from the Tyrrhenian side, along the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway.
