- VAL D'ARBIA HILLS AND MONTALCINO (55 km – Elevation gain: 1130m). After breakfast you’ll ride through the gentle hills of Siena, between “Colle Malamerenda” and Radi, studded with farmhouses and medieval villages. The view of the village of Murlo will be the end of the easiest part of the whole permanent route. The second part of today's intinerary will take you over the panormaic hills of Montalcino, where one of the most prestigious Italian wines is produced: Brunello di Montalcino. Take your time to visit the town center and admire the incredible panorama over the Val d’Orcia area. Dinner on your own and overnight in Montalcino (3-star hotel).
- VAL D'ORCIA REGION (38 km – elevation gain: 780m). You’ll leave Montalcino behind, cycling through the Brunello vineyards and weaving along the routes of L’Eroica and the Via Francigena. With a slight detour from the original Eroica path, you’ll have the chance to ride into the heart of the Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Following the Via Francigena, you’ll pass through Vignoni and arrive in Bagno Vignoni, a charming village where thermal waters flow from a large pool in the main square. The final stop is Pienza, the “ideal city” of the Renaissance, a UNESCO World Heritage site also known for its famous Pecorino cheese. Dinner on your own and overnight stay in a 4-star hotel in Pienza.
- CRETE SENESI AND MONTE SANTE MARIE (52 km – elevation gain: 760 meters). Before rejoining the Eroica route, a short detour offers the chance to visit the monastery of Sant'Anna in Camprena, known for several scenes from the film The English Patient. You’ll reconnect with the Eroica trail near Lucignano d’Asso, one of the most captivating stretches of white roads along the route. The second part of the stage, past Buonconvento, takes you on a scenic ride through the unique landscapes of the Crete Senesi, a sparsely populated area that offers breathtaking views and a true immersion in the classic Tuscan countryside. An alternate route leads you to the Monte Oliveto Abbey, set atop a cypress-covered hill in the picturesque desert of Accona, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Crete Senesi. You’ll pass through the charming village of Chiusure, where you can ride through the center and stop for lunch at "Locanda Paradiso," the last point of interest before a scenic descent towards Asciano. Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional Tuscan agriturismo.
- MONTE SANTE MARIE & CHIANTI REGION (53 km - elevation gain: 1230m). Right after Asciano, the route becomes more challenging, tackling the beautiful rolling hills of Sante Marie—well-known from the classic Strade Bianche cycling race—as you head towards Torre a Castello. After passing Torre a Castello, you’ll arrive in Castelnuovo Berardenga, your gateway to Chianti, one of the world’s most famous wine-producing regions, celebrated both for its quality wines and breathtaking landscapes. The scenery here alternates between expansive vineyards and forests, winding through small villages and farm estates. You’ll reach Radda in Chianti, a charming town well worth a visit for its delightful historic center. Here, you can enjoy a Chianti wine tasting or simply relax and stroll through its characteristic alleyways. Dinner on your own and overnight stay in a 4-star hotel.
- GAIOLE IN CHIANTI & CASTELLO DI BROLIO (47 km - elevation gain: 800m). You’ll pass through Radda in Chianti, a charming town worth exploring for its delightful historic center. After leaving Radda, you’ll head towards Gaiole in Chianti, the starting and ending point of the historic Eroica route. The first part of the stage includes a gentle climb leading to one of the Chianti region’s most iconic landmarks and highlights of the Eroica route: the Castello di Brolio. The ride here, with its cypress-lined ascent, path under the castle walls, and descent through breathtaking vineyard views, is one of the most enchanting sections of the journey. Before continuing towards Siena, you’ll have the chance to visit Castello di Brolio, a historic estate dating back to the 11th century and owned by the Ricasoli family since 1141. Leaving Chianti behind, you’ll soon begin to catch glimpses of Siena near San Giovanni a Cerreto—a perfect preview of one of Italy’s most beautiful medieval cities. Dinner on your own and overnight in a 3-star hotel, with the option to upgrade to a 4-star hotel for an additional fee.
