Day 1: Arrival in Fonte Cerreto
Individual arrival in Fonte Cerreto. If you have time, we recommend you to visit L'Aquila. Also known as the Florence of Abruzzo or the Salzburg of Italy, the city of l'Aquila is rich in history and culture. Don't miss tha chance to visit the Cathedral of San Bernardino, the Duomo square, the unique fountain of 99 spouts - symbol of the city - and the Spanish fort, one of the most beautiful Renaissance castle in Italy.
Day 2: From Fonte Cerreto to Campotosto Lake. (65 km, elevation: 990)
Today you will reach by bus the cable car station that connects Campo Imperatore, where your cycling tour will start. Near the station there’s an astronomical observatory and an alpine botanical garden, but what dominates is the imposing Hotel Campo Imperatore where Mussolini was imprisoned in 1943. From here you'll enjoy an exhilarating descent towards the plateau of Campo Imperatore, also called small Tibet, going down the famous "Pantani's climb". Passing through Assergi, your route will take you to Capannelle Pass and to Campotosto Lake.
Day 3: From Campotosto Lake to Teramo (49 km, elevation: 549)
Today you will cycle along the Grand Highway of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Italy. Following the course of Vomano River you will enjoy glimpse of rare beauties passing through Tottea, Senarica and Montorio al Vomano.
Final destination: Teramo, called in Roman times Interammnia (city between two rivers), as it is crossed by the Tordino and the Vezzola rivers. Take a walk throughout the suggestive streets of its historic centre with its beautiful churches.
Day 4: From Teramo to Torano Nuovo (40 km, elevation: 680)
Today's route will take you to the solemn Bourbon Fortress of Civitella del Tronto, emblem of the town and a masterpiece of military engineering, that expands over 25.000 metres thus being the most important in Europe. After visiting the fortess your ride will continue along the Controguerra Wine Road passing through olive groves and vast expanses of vineyards right where the Montepulciano is produced. Last stop is Torano Nuovo. Here you have the possibility to stay overnight at a wine cellar (possibility of wine tasting).
Day 5: from Torano Nuovo to Giuglianova (33 km, elevation: 300)
Your last cycling day will let you discover Teramo's coast. Riding along the Wine Road you will pass through Controguerra and Corropoli and then down to Alba Adriatica. From here a cycle path by the sea will lead you to your final destination: Giulianova.
